Salt and Sage is a theatre company in Portland Oregon.

No More Candy by Mikki Gillette

Salt and Sage is dedicated to foregrounding the female experience, exploring the personal and political dimensions of sexuality, and providing space for actor training to foster personal and artistic growth. We collaborate with artists in other mediums to expand our mutual investigation and understanding of the human experience and grow our audiences. We choose projects that push the boundaries of our own artistic skills and talents, in order to grow as artists ourselves.

Mission

What’s in a name?

Salt and Sage. Theatre is hard work - it's supposed to hurt a bit - you should break a sweat, you should shed a tear - you are doing work that stretches the soul. It should also be healing. There should be a sense of relief and release. Sweat and smudge. Salt and sage.

How’d it start?

Asae Dean and Jenny Newbry conceived of Salt and Sage Productions after collaborating on Sam Shepard's Fool for Love in April of 2013. Salt and Sage's first project was a tour of Newbry's original one woman devised piece Cinnamon and Cigarettes about the death of her childhood best friend, Jeremy. The show toured to the San Francisco Fringe Festival. Since then Salt and Sage has done a mix of new work and stark stagings of Shakespeare.
