Asae Dean produced Cressida in the late winter of 2012, early winter of 2013. Cressida is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida. In Shakespeare’s play the titular lovers speak less than a quarter of the lines with Cressida speaking less than half as much as Troilus. Dean’s script elevates Cressida to the center of the story, treating her passions and station in society as worthy of full examination. Though not an official Salt and Sage production, the themes of Cressida are core to its mission.
